"Ice-Out" on Lake Winnipesaukee
was officially declared on

Old Man's
prediction: April 7
Today:
The ice is gone from the bay. With the high winds ice-out
could be declared any time.

The lake never completely iced over this year.
There has been patches of open water in some bays (you can see the one below in
Saunders Bay) and in the broads (check the picture at the bottom of this page).
There has been talk about the ice going out earlier this year than it did in
2002. Not so fast, boaters. Check out the picture taken about the
same time in 2002. In 2002 we had a cool spring, so a warm March may push
us into a late March Ice-out, but don't bet on it. The "Old Man of the
Lake" has set his prediction as April 7. March weather is so
unpredictable the only thing you can count on is that it will definitely be out
earlier than the last two years (See chart below: Both April 20).
