Sorry, No Boat Race

Unfortunately, there will be no boat races again this year.  Although the New Hampshire Powerboat Racing Association tried to make it happen, it had the same reoccurring problem: Sponsorship.

Since Compaq dropped sponsorship in 1999 (The Winnipesaukee Compaq Challenge), the race committee has not been able to find a suitable sponsor.

To make a national race happen, the committee needs over $100,000 dollars.  To make a regional race happen, the committee needs close to $50,000.

The committee almost had a deal with Foxwoods Casino to sponsor a Regional race, however, this deal did not materialize.

Even though the New Hampshire Powerboat Racing Association has conceded that there will be no race this year, they have not given up on next year.

If  you have $100,000 you could spare, or even $50,000, you could be next years sponsor.  Just imagine, "The 2002 Winnipesaukee (insert your name here) Challenge."
