A hit and run accident claimed the life of a Bedford man Sunday night when his boat was struck and then overrun by a  larger boat on Lake Winnipesaukee.   The larger boat then fled the scene.

The accident took place near Grouse Point in Meredith around 9:30 p.m.

The victim and his boat  returned to the town docks in Meredith, where they were met by Meredith Fire Department emergency personnel.

Marine Patrol has yet to release the name of the deceased. His identify is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

According to Marine Patrol Capt. Mark K. Gallagher, the  two boats were traveling from Meredith Bay to the Weirs area when one boat overtook the other and ran over.

The boat which left the scene is described as a high performance boat somewhere between 26-33 feet long. If you have any information about the accident, please call the Marine Patrol Bureau office at 1-877-642-9700.
