Warmest New Hampshire Winter in 122 Years Although some boaters may feel sorry for skiers and ice fisherman, most can't help but be happy about the warm winter. A warm winter means an early ice-out and an extension of a short boating season. This season was not only warm, it was the warmest in 122 years.
According to the National Weather Service (which considers winter as December, January and February), the average temperature was 29.7 degrees. Normal temperature is 23.1. The only warmer winter on record was 1879-1880, when the average was 30.4. Anything can happen in New Hampshire, but some are saying the ice could be out on Winnipesaukee as early as mid March.
