Weirs Sign

Weirs beach, one of New Hampshire's favorite boating destinations, is getting a facelift of one of its most recognizable icons.  The flashing neon chaser lights are back burning on the fully restored Weirs Beach Sign.  Last year there was talk of sending the 46 year old sign to the scrap heap.  That talk is over, and the local icon is back in place at the entrance to Weirs Beach.

Last year the city set aside $40,000 dollars to replace or repair the sign.  Three of the four bidders of the restoration project said the sign was beyond repair, and the other said they would repair it for $36,000 with no guarantees.

Things looked bad until Allison Hildebrand collected 2,000 signatures in support of keeping the original sign and having it repaired.  She then found a company who would do it for a lot less and offer a five year warranty.

The sign was removed in November, and now is back in place pointing visitors to the fun of Weirs Beach.
