Vintage Race The Winnipesaukee Compaq Challenge may have been cancelled for the second consecutive year, but race fans can get a "old school" fix this weekend at the "2001 New Hampshire Raceboat Regatta". This APBA (American Power Boat Association) sanctioned event will take place on Saturday, September 22. The first race will take place in Wolfeboro Bay on Lake Winnipesaukee at 9 A.M. This will be a full day of racing. There are 7 different classes (Hydroplanes, Jersey Skiffs, etc.) with heats taking place every half hour. If you want to get an early peak at the Race Boats, you can catch them warming up in Wolfeboro Bay between 1PM and 4PM on Friday. If you don't have a boat, or Waterfront property in Wolfeboro, you can get a good view aboard the Sophie C (pick-up at 9:30 at Wolfeboro Town Docks). From Land, you can attend a luncheon with great views at 55 South Main Street ($10-Proceeds go to the NH Humane Society). After the races you can meet the drivers at a cook out at the New Hampshire Antique and Classic Boat Museum. Or for a greater thrill, you can catch a ride on one of the race boats. All you have to do is become a member of the museum and the ride is free. For more information call Hank Why at (603) 569-2212 or go to: http://www.nhacbm.org/
